Mgt. 5199 Management Ethics and Lecture Series.
This is a one credit-hour course required of all MBA degree-seeking GSM
students. It is comprised of two parts: a three-hour ethics lecture and seven
management-related lectures.
Mgt. 5302-5502-6102-6104 English Communication.
For international students, whose native language is not English, to ensure adequate
communications skills to successfully complete their MBA program. These courses may
run concurrently with the student’s MBA program. TOEFL scores and Focal Skills Test
scores (obtained after students arrive) will be used to place students in: Mgt. 5302
Intensive English I (10 hours/week), Mgt. 5502 Intensive English II (15 hours/ week)
, Mgt. 6102 Accent Reduction, or Mgt. 6104 Research Writing and Public Speaking
(3 hours/week). These course grades are not included in the student’s final GPA but
do count toward highest honors. Students taking 5502 will be allowed to enroll in
only one GSM course; students taking 5302 may enroll in two GSM courses.
Mgt. 5362 Economics and Competitive Advantage.
This course is designed to help managers make informed decisions with the aid of
economic analysis. It applies basic microeconomic theory to industry analysis and
the competitive positioning of firms both domestically and globally.
Mgt. 5368 Financial Accounting.
The course focuses on basic financial statements such as the balance sheet, income
statement, and the statement of cash flows. Students study the foundations of accounting
methods and systems, including the double-entry system and inventory methods. This course
assumes no prior accounting knowledge.
Mgt. 5371 Data Analysis for Decision-Making.
This course focuses on the analysis and presentation of quantitative information in a
manner that facilitates understanding and decision-making. The course covers basic
sampling, statistical analysis, reporting, and data presentation techniques.
Mgt. 5384 Legal Environment.
This course examines legal processes, government regulation of business, contracts,
including selling/purchasing, instruments, the Uniform Commercial Code, and ethical codes.
Mgt. 5385 Employee and Workforce Law.
This course provides an overview of legal issues affecting human resource management,
including international, federal, state, and municipal laws. Landmark as well as current
Federal and State court cases, Federal executive orders, tort theories, ethical concerns,
legislative issues, and legal trends are also covered.
Mgt. 5386 Legal Aspects of S&E .
This course will look at the legal, social, political and ethical issues in the Sports and
Entertainment industries. Specifically, topics will include basic business laws, contract
negotiation, licensing agreements, copyrights and patents, liability/risk management,
agent relationships, and privacy issues.
Mgt. 5387 Foundations of Information Assurance.
This survey course will provide an understanding of communications and IT infrastructures,
their vulnerabilities as well as the size and complexity of security threats faced by
enterprises. Building on an understanding of these infrastructures, the development
of security practices, policies, awareness and compliance programs, and legal and
regulatory issues will be examined. Development of a threat assessment mapped to
a solution that is supported with a cost/benefit analysis will also be developed.
A review of the GSM Security Hierarchy model will be used to examine the many
elements of a “secure” system.
